Village in the Shade gives you three simple rules: don't talk to strangers, don't leave the village, and whatever you do, don't go out at night. The Steam page says you can discover the truth about Kagatsu at your own risk, or follow the rules and avoid seeing a part of the village you would rather not see.

The section of the store page titled "Secrets Aren't Meant to be Shared" frames the game as a choice: dig into what Kagatsu hides, or keep to the rules. The publisher does not spell out what breaking a rule leads to, and this guide will not guess. A Russian news outlet reported that the developers named My Neighbor Totoro and the horror film Midsommar as inspirations at PAX West 2026.
